Interstate 271 Slide Repair
- 10,000 tons of Spent Foundry Sand
- Excellent Drainage
- Excellent Compaction
- Layered Composite
The Interstate 271 Embankment Repair Project called for high performance product solutions. Over 10,000 tons of recycled foundry sand supplied by Kurtz Bros., Inc. met this challenge. Kurtz Bros., Inc. has been recycling foundry sand for more than 16 years. Originally manufactured from the best sources available, its second-generation properties make it a better material for highway embankments than most virgin aggregate sources.
Foundry sand was used as an integral structural component and proved its ability to meet critical compaction, permeability and workability performance under varying site conditions. Testing throughout the project showed that load after load, foundry sand offers consistent and predictable results, allowing for efficient installation procedures. The availability and economy are added benefits, making it an ideal solution.
