Product Description

Sweet Peet® is a 100% organics product made from composted ingredients harvested from local farming operations. Used as a mulch, its rich, dark color and natural texture are the perfect visual enhancement in any landscape setting. Unlike cedar, pine and bark by products, which are used with acid loving plants, Sweet Peet benefits all other plantings and its regular use can eliminate the need for applying caustic limestone.

APPLICATION : 3 to 6 inches Sweet Peet® should be applied directly on top of bare earth. Sweet Peet® may also be rototilled into topsoil to improve tilth and moisture retention. Sweet Peet® has the right color and texture to beautify mulched areas around all plantings. When spread to a depth of 3 inches it will prevent compaction, retain moisture, suppress weeds and slowly release nutrients to the root system for healthier, more vigorous plants.

ORGANIC GROWING MEDIUM: Most organic growing techniques can be structured around a Sweet Peebase. Mixing a proportion of l /3 Sweet Peeand 2/3 virgin top soil will yield a fine potting soil. This potting soil mixed with one-quarter volume sand is a superb planting mix for root crops.

ON ESTABLISHED LAWNS: Sweet Peeis used as a top dressing on lawns and golf courses. It can be spread thinly by hand or in a spreader set atis biggest opening. Avoid spreading so thick as to smother the grass. Rake in gently with a leaf rake. This application can be repeated frequently during the growing season with no danger of burning. For best results, apply a few days after mowing.

TO ESTABLISH NEW LAWN S: A 3 inch layer of Sweet Peeshould be spread on desired area, along with any fertilizer or lime if recommended. Incorporate into soil using a rake, hoe or rototiller. Smooth evenly before seeding. Top dress with a ½ inch Sweet Peet®.

PLANTS: Prepare a hole twice the size of the root ball being planted. Make a mix of 20% Sweet Peeand 80% soil from the dug hole. After the plant is placed in the hole, use the prepared mixture to back-fill around the root ball. Water and tamp in firmlto avoid air pockets.

I normally buy black mulch but am trying to build up my beds since starting them. This stuff is great! It doesn't smell, spreads really well, and looks super professional. It's not stopping the weeds...but I don't think anything could in my yard!

Split a load with my daughter. She wanted help with making her gardens soil better, she has a lot of clay. I needed to add to what I already have. It was a win for both of us.

  6. The original and the best 5 Star Review

Great mulch product. I've alternated between triple shred and sweet peet and I really like the ease with which the sweet peet can be spread and its versatility in beds or as a top dressing for reseeding.

How to Measure

How To Figure The Area Of Your Landscape Beds or The Area You Want To Mulch:

1. With a measuring tape, measure how many feet long the bed is. Then measure how many feet wide. Multiply these two figures. The total is the square foot area of that landscape bed.

2. Decide how thick you want your mulch to be (2” is average). For new landscape beds, 4” of mulch is recommended. If you are just top dressing a previously mulched bed, you may wish to use as little as 1” of mulch. Using the conversion chart below or Mulch Calculator to the right, you can figure how many cubic yards or bags of mulch, soil or gravel to order.

3. If you still have questions, please call our visit one of our stores. If you have the total area of your landscape beds calculated, we’d be glad to help you figure the amount of mulch, soil or gravel you will need.

BULK MATERIAL ONE cubic yard will cover approximately:
1296 sq. ft. 1/4″ deep
648 sq. ft. 1/2″ deep
324 sq. ft. 1″ deep
162 sq. ft. 2″ deep
108 sq. ft. 3″ deep
81 sq. ft. 4″ deep

1 square yard = 9 square feet
1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet
